Mallorca

The island of Mallorca is a Spanish island in the western Mediterranean, which belongs to the archipelago of the Balearic Islands. In its capital Palma, live around  401 000 inhabitants of a total population of about 862 397 of the island. With a surface area of approximately 3603 square kilometers, Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands. It extends in a length of about 98 km and a width of 78 km. The coastline is about 550 km and is dotted with many small bays and beautiful beaches. The highest mountain on the island, the Puig Major (1,445 m), is located in the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range that stretches across the west and northwest of the island and was just declared “World Heritage” by Unesco.

Climate

Mallorca is determined by a Mediterranean subtropical climate –  mostly mild winters are followed by hot and dry summers. The daytime temperature is during the summer months June to September arround 28° C, with an average sea temperature of 24° C. In summer the temperature at night drops usually not below 20° C. Joy of life

The island of Mallorca is very diverse and offers something to every visitor. The bathers focuse on the traditional seaside resorts such as Playa de Palma, Paguera, Alcudia, etc … or prefer one of the small bays enclosed by rocky cliffs between Cala Ratjada and Cala Santanyi. For sport enthusiasts, Majorca offers the best conditions. Sailers, surfers or scuba divers are just as good at their expense as golfers who can practise their hobby on the 22 golf courses of the island. Most cyclists prefer the spring on Mallorca for their tours across the island. Hikers can do varied walks in the Sierra de Tramuntana and culture lovers will please Mallorca, especially Palma’s old town.
